What is going on with Zimbabwe?
Although I am supposed to be talking about the primaries, I had to touch on this subject. As many of you know, the situation in Zimbabwe has become abysmal. The re-election of President Robert Mugabe was a sham. Mugabe has also obstructed any effort in bringing about successful peace talks with Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). To top it all off, there is now a severe cholera outbreak that is ravaging the families, homes, and communities that make up Zimbabwe. The sanitation system and the economy have completely collapsed. As a result, there is no clean water for those that need it (thus the start of the Cholera outbreak). It’s so frustrating to hear about the near 3,000 that have already died because of the outbreak and the dismal situation that pervades throughout the country. It is time for Mugabe to step down. It is clear he does not know how to run a country nor he does he know how to take care of his own people. As a public servant, a leader must always put his countrymen before himself. Mugabe has no concept of being a public servant nor does he deserve the privilege of being called president of Zimbabwe.
